Curriculum MEcon The MEcon provides the necessary tools for economic careers and research in the digital age. Duration and structure The MEcon is designed as a full-time study programme for a standard duration of 3 semesters. The study period can be extended up to 8 semesters. In total you will earn 90 ECTS credits, which are divided into core studies, contextual studies and Master thesis. The programme can only be started in the autumn semester. Core Studies In the Master's degree programme in Economics, the core studies are divided into three parts: compulsory courses, core electives and independent electives. The compulsory area comprises a total of seven courses, four in the core subjects of micro- and macroeconomics and three method courses. The core electives area offers a variety of specializations. Three out of ten core courses (12 ECTS credits) have to be taken. In addition, further courses can be selected from the wide range of courses from MEcon and other programmes. In the independent elective area you can further sharpen your study profile. Contextual studies Contextual studies aim at giving the students, alongside their specific subject competences, a social, historical and cultural awareness to accompany them on their future paths. It also offers skills courses, in which you get to know presentation and negotiation techniques or programming languages. The contextual studies is offered for all programmes on Master’s level. Master thesis In your Master thesis, you deal thoroughly with a scientific question. You directly apply the theories and empiricism learned in the core courses. The Master thesis is weighted with 18 ECTS credits and can be written in German or English. Language The MEcon can be studied in a flexible mixture of German and English language. The compulsory courses are taught in English, core electives and independent electives can also be attended in German.
